Cornish Skate Celebrity Twists the Arm of Fate

Not normally given to bowing to public pressure [LIALC] has decided that just this once, it's OK.

The blog has definately been getting a bit sporadic lately what with Severe Weather, Injury, Illness and the Festive Season all conspiring to create a climate in which blogging becomes almost a masochistic pursuit. But with the right motivation I can shrug off the the this lackadaisical mood.

Thankfully Whip is on hand to bug me about the photos from the not-so-recent trip to Newport. I had made a somewhat ill advised promise to get photos up within a week of my original post. That kind of thing never gets past the Whipster and, as a prolific blogger himself, he would never leave such a painfully long pause.

So, without any further a'do, may I (re)introduce to you, the wonderful, the stoic, the classically mustachioed Mr Chris "Whippet" Bisson...



When you get to the Newport park, make sure to try to skate the tight little transition with about a foot and a half of vert that you'll see as you walk in. That's the transition in the photo above, on which Whip is sticking this Rocck'n'Roll.

As a result of me posting the above photo, I'm pretty sure in saying that Whip is now the most heavily featured skater on this blog. If you go back to the Myspace days of this blog the statistics get really scary.

Now as you may remember from issue #1 of the printed version of [LIALC] whip has a very nice example of a 1972 Raleigh Esquire. Last week he managed to pick up some beautiful white wall tyres, so here is a picture of the Esquire sporting the fresh look.

Lovenskate Love in!

Today I popped over to the Lovenskate headquarters in East London to do some biziniz. It turned out to be the best afternoon of my week. It's always fun catching up with Stu and seeing what's on the Lovenskate radar. Stu was kind enough to give me a few bits including "Super Jumbo" film that documents the 2007 Lovenskate trip to Bolivia, plus the odd postcard. I stupidly left the INJURY issue of the fansine sitting on a table, no day is ever perfect.




While I was there being fed and supplied cups of tea Stu managed to get a compromising photo of me in an emotional moment with a cup of tea, so by way off a preemptive strike, here's a photo I took of Stu at the Super Jumbo premiere.



Lovenskate is one of those companies that are doing it for the right reasons and doing it with a great big smile on their face, they deserve your support, Skater Owned, what else can I say?

The Call of Cold Hard Welsh Concrete

For me Newport has always been associated with a quick drive over the Severn Bridge into Wales and skating the indoor park "Skate Extreme" complete with puddles and damp wood. It would generally be a winter skate otherwise we'd be at the Deaner or George's Park back in Bristol. But now Newport has a new outdoor concrete park.

As with a lot of concrete parks in the UK it has it's foibles. There seems to be just a little it too much flat on all the bowl sections and what flat there is is really quite rough. It's not quite Romford Rough but it'll steel your speed if your not careful.

Having been off the board for three months or so, It was time to have a cruise round the collection of concrete trannies and bowls on offer that all link in quite nicely but still demand a bit of working out to keep you speed to hit the stuff you want to.

January skating can quite often be a slightly slow affair. What with the crap weather and waves of illness over the last month it was great to be back at a concrete park shout at each other and tanking it round a park that tricks you into wanting, no needing, to get speed as quick as possible and then do all you can to keep going fast, faster...

Joe had skated here before and was all about the transfers. Here is a sequence of the Ollie_to-50:50 version in the low winter sun.




There were other little bits to mention but I'll leave that for later in the week.

Mi amigo es un viajero

Kev's been working hard lately, setting in the shop, spreading his unique brand of street knowledge to the lucky types who make their way through the doors of the Three Amigos skateshop in Camden. I mentioned before how I like the vibe of the shop and how people should support the skater owned ventures out there but let's not forget about the skating.

Here's a litte vid of 10 Tricks from Kev at Cantelowes. Since I've not skated for about 3 months watching Kev skate this place is almost unbearable... in a good way. Oh for sunny days hacking round that bowl.



I'm off down to Bristol and Newport this weekend so hopefully have something for you next week.

Being Indestructable Would Be No Fun.

So you go away on holiday to a Greek Island for a bit, you relax, you hang out with your beutiful fiancé and you generally recharge your batteries. You then arrive back home, crash your bike, bend all sorts of metal bits so the bike has to be retired for a while. You also manage to separate your collar-bone from your shoulder and now can't sleep on you right hand side, your favourite side.

Now we all know wearing a sling is a complete waste of time, so you keep riding your bike and never get round to dropping off the X-Rays to your local hospital and making the appointment with the Fracture clinic.

Of course the whole time you're not skating coz that would be irresponsible with a separated AC in your shoulder BUT riding around london all week is no problem and it doesn't really count because you r legs are doing all the work anyway.

Then you wake up your afore mentioned beautiful fiancé in the early morning hours by talking in your sleep, well sort of in a dream but you actually say it out loud, the world is out to get you and your shoulder hurts like fuck! You get up an go to the Hospital.

As of 9:15 am tomorrow, I will be back in the hands of the staff at the West Middlesex Hospital. My biggest fear? That they will tell be to stop riding my bike for a month.

Of course before all this happened I was down in bristol for the weekend to celebrate with the bristol Boys, a few Cornish were in a attendance and of course Joxa was there.

A week in skateboarding is a long time, but a day after last night's Heel Toe Magic premiere and riding home at about 3.30 am after a few beers feels even longer. It's a miracle that I got round to doing this at all.

So here's the last of the crappy quality sequences. It's Awadh in this one again, showing just how comfortable he his with the hips at meanwhile.



My brain is working too slowly to come up with any witty sign-off so I'll just say goodbye for now and maybe see you in Bristol this weekend.

[LIALC]: Week Of Wac Sequences! Day 4.

Got to be quick today I'm afraid. Busy, busy.

Thought I'd throw another little slice of Adam and his low-down style from the weekend. Johners has the "Trujillo, suck up and ride you arse on the floor" steeze all sewn up, and this is a good example of that.



You'll notice in the Background of one frame, Alan brandishing his VX22thousand HD Time-Machine Camera. Alan had been sent to the floor by a Kid-on-BMX/Hole-in-Floor combo and decided that filming was less likely to put yet another hole in his mangled knee. Keep them peeled for a Meanwhile Edit from him soon.
